“If there is one thing you can give to the Philippines, what is that gift?”

#GLOBEProjectWonderful2014

If there is one thing you can give to the Philippines? What is that gift? I was in trance for a moment when I read the question. It is as if I was given a chance to become a fairy God mother for a second. I can give a gift, and it is not only for a person but for my beloved country. What do the Philippines need the most? At the back of my mind, the answer is too many. The fingers in my hand and feet will never be enough. But my answer is based on the last low pressure and tropical depression that hit Caraga Region.  It stays in Caraga Region for almost three weeks.

Almost all Barangays in Butuan City is submerged in water. To be particular, 67 out of 86 barangays. Agusan River has reached its critical level. And the barangays surrounding the river is almost nowhere to be found. All I can see is the ceiling of those houses and the water surrounding it. Residents aren’t ready for it. They never expected the river to rise so fast that they were not able to prepare their belongings and did not even try to evacuate. Many of them were trapped in their houses waiting for rescuers to rescue them. It is not easy for the rescuers to rescue those stranded in their houses because the water current is too strong. Both the rescuers and to be rescued lives are at stake. The rescuers need all the facilities needed for rescue to be present to make the rescue mission successful. But the Philippines have limited rescue facilities to use in order to help those in need in times of natural disaster like flood.

For #GLOBEProjectWonderful2014, my gift for the Philippines would be rescue facilities for typhoon and earthquake. These are natural calamities that hit the Philippine seashore every now and then. Thus, we should always be prepared for it. Rescue facilities like boats and life saving devices such as life vests and flotation devices. Facilities for rescue will be much needed help to reach out those people who needs help. It would be better if every barangay has boat, life vest and floatation devices so that rescue will be more accessible. It is also a big help if there is a group of people in the Barangay trained for rescue purposes so that when the circumstance arises there are people whom the residence can depend on. Typhoons are stronger than usual because of global warming. If calamities are upgrading, then it’s also time to upgrade what we have. We cannot settle for two to three boats when we have 68 Barangays need rescue. Delayed rescue means more lives are at stake. And lives lost will never be back to life, that’s the hardest part. And according to data, more and more lives are lost due to typhoon that caused flood. The main reason is the delayed response due to lack of facilities. When the rescuers came houses and the people are swept already. These are hard facts that cannot be ignored. It should be given importance because it is true. It mirrors reality. The action should not only come from the government but also from us citizens, in our own little way. And this is my way of helping, reaching and hopefully fulfilling my wish for the Philippines. Hope this wish will come to reality.

We cannot take the risk. Risk is only for business. Life is precious. I want to give the Philippines a gift of life. The readiness in times of disaster and that preparedness of all the needed facilities are too important to be ignored. Manpower is important but it cannot be fully utilize if the materials are not present. Facilities and manpower are equally important. But it is overlooked by those in position. They were given importance when lives are lost already. It is sad truth but it does not mean we will ignore and live with it. We have the voice and power to change the scenario. I hope to win #GLOBEProjectWonderful2014 to fulfil my wish. The fulfilment of my wish means more lives will be spare, more lives will be saved and more facilities will be given. The rant of lack of rescue facilities will be answered too. It will serve as an awakening and starting point. The beginning for a new hope that we can upgrade what we can have. And it only started with one wish.

My Own Dream Board

There are a lot websites I am following, and one of those sites is femalenetwork.com. I always read there featured articles whether in travel, work and relationship. I am admitted that what they write in their site, I take it to heart. I even print it to read it over again. One of the articles I read lately is about making a dream board. They even made a DIY for it. Since I am not still sure of the things I want to achieve experience and look forward this 2014. I decided to make my own dream board.

All I just did is to cut pictures and words in my old magazines (I collect magazines). I bought an illustration board and glue to complete the set up. I try to be artistic as possible but oh boy, this is only what I can do. I don’t want to talk how artistic I am but what is the symbolism of the dream board I made. It is more important that my artistic side though I am not sure if there is really. What I made is a reflection of my ideals, wants and dream. The dream board I made is me. The real me. The meaning of my dreams are:

New: Shoes

Give a girl the right shoes and she can conquer the world. Who won’t forget that saying? That’s the reason I really want to collect shoes. I can’t get over it. I never have enough of it. They say there is a certain connection between a woman and shoes and I believe in it. This year, I want to have running shoes, wedge and peep toe.  Not so many but at least worth to collect shoes. I’m looking forward for my first pair of celine or primadonna shoes this year!

A Fresh Girl: Lose Weight

This year is all about reinventing me. I am 50 kilos now and I want to go back to 46 kilos which I was last year. I want to gain more self confidence. I want to have discipline this time. It’s easy to gain extra fats but it’s not easy to lose them. I’ve learned that through the years. I reap all the eating I made last Christmas and New Year. Oh boy, I cannot undo all my gastronomic escapades. All I have to do is go back in tract. Practice my yoga, exercise and run.

Choose your Destination: Travel More

I am a fan of Bianca Gonzales to do more. I am inspired by her travels and all the things she does. I am amaze of how she balances her work life, travel and more. And this 2014, she is my peg. I want to be more like her. I want to experience different things, visit different places and squeeze out the best in me. This year, I will make sure that I will get a passport. This has been my dream and I will push it. Though I am not sure if I can travel abroad, I don’t care as long as I have it. This year, I’m planning to go to Camiguin and another place. Maybe north but I don’t have a place in mind still.

Yipee: More food and restaurants to discover

If you already browse my blog or a new visitor, you can check out all my gastronomic escapades. Last year, I reach my quota! Ha-ha-ha, but I am so happy I did. This 2014, I will treat myself to new restaurants. I want to dine at Max’s Restaurant, Margie’s and more. Discover new food I never tasted, hmmm, I don’t know what food to start but I’ll definitely check out new ones.

Reaction: New Gadgets

Who doesn’t want new gadgets? New camera, cell phone or table? Definitely one will lust for it! this year, they are my dream! But, I am sure I can’t have them all! Ha-ha-ha, for sure they will continually be in my next year dream board and wish list. But, I want to take it slow, maybe start with the…I am not even sure where to start! They are expensive to date! I think I will start with a tablet, there are a lot of affordable tablets in the market right now. It will suit my budget I guess.

Fall in Love: More Books

Books are so dear to me. I believe, I’ve told you already I am a bookwork. I collect magazines, books and all. This year, books are flowing still! More, more and more books! I won’t stop until I will have enough. I think I will buy a Paulo Coelho and Nicholas Sparks books this year and discover new authors.

Focus: Save for the Rainy Days

Yeah, it is literally raining when I write this blogpost and even when I made my dream board! It’s raining for more than two week now. This reminds me to focus on saving for the rainy days. Our life is not only full of ups. There are times that we will fall down. Change is constant, and to prepare for rainy days. I want to set aside a part of my earnings to save. It’s not anticipating that there will bad things that will happen but to be prepared when it will happen. Future is full of uncertainties but we can prepare for it.

Those are the explanation of my dream board! If you also want to make one for yourself, check out femalenetwork.com for their DIY. For now, I will dream about my dream board wide awake. And tomorrow, I’ll start to move to achieve it. There is no harm in trying, if I fail, there will always be next time. Same rule applies to you.

Year in Flashback: 2013

Credits to the Owner of the Photo

Happy New Year!

2013 will be written in history 15 minutes from now. I am trying my very best to write this blog post before 2013 ends. 2013 is a bitter-sweet experience for me. It has been very fruitful. But very sad as well, I lost the most important woman in my life-my mom. I am writing this blog post to remind me what I have achieved, experienced, cherished and look forward in the coming year.
Flash back starts now.
My Mother Passed Away
It happened last January 8 when my mother passed away after she was hospitalized for more than three days. It was my downfall. I cannot accept, I felt demoralized; it was only two years after my father passed away. It is still early, she was still young and I am not yet ready. I have so many plans for us; I have so many promises to her. When she died, I lost my leading. I feel like giving up on everything. I even think of quitting my job but then I am thankful God choose to light my way. It is as if he breathes in new life to me. My strength has been revived.  Though I already recovered, there are times that I wake up in the night crying because of missing them both.
I Won a Lot of Online Contest
2013 is a year of online winnings for me. I have won different blog contest. I was able to try different beauty products like HBC from Peachy Pink Sisters blog contest,  Kojie san and Lolita colognes from Mikki Galang, NYX products from Charlene Ajose. T here is a lot of them. I was able to win Hardy’s wine as well. Tell me, who miss 2013? Hmmm, definitely me!
I joined Nuffnang!
This is one of my best decisions, joining nuffnang. It is because I become more committed in blogging. I become more connected in the blogging world. I was able to win nuffnang contest too! I was able to earn as well by making use of my blog! Not only that, I get to know bloggers as well. It feels so good to know people who share the same passion.
Started a Business.
This is my best decision, to pursue what I’ve been doing ever since college, venturing business. It started with me and my two officemates contribute to have a starting capital of 5,000 pesos to buy Italian Silver. Now, thankfully we were able to expand our business to Ready to Wear Items. It is very fulfilling to have an income outside of my job. I am thankful I took the risk of putting my hard earned money in business because it has worked for me well.
I moved out of my Comfort Zone.
I changed my address. I travel alone. It’s not my usual to decide urgently in so many things. I always take my time before jumping into it. Last year, I become impulsive in the right way. I decide over lunch that I am going to Davao. Pull of a decision to take Civil Service Exam over night.  It is big decisions but it does not take so much time to decide and I am happy I made it. I make sure that the things I do are out of the box, I try to do the things I don’t usually do. 2013 has been an experiment to me. And that experiment is a success.
I passed the Civil Service Exam
This is for my growth. It is only my office mates who want to take exam but because they believe in the saying,” the more the merrier” they want me to join them. I was hesitant at first, I feel that I am not ready plus 500 pesos is big already. But then, they convince me to try, there’s no harm in trying so I take risk. And it paid off. I was part of the short list.  I will now look forward in taking the Agriculturist board exam soon.
I have a lot of success and struggles last year. But what I have written are just the highlights. I am thankful that God give me another year to celebrate- a life to live and love. I’m looking back 2013 with a smile and I look forward 2014 with a lot things in mind. Wondering how will I make it more special this time.
